Today, approximately 90% of the data in the world consists of spatial or spatial data. For this reason, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has become a technology used in a very wide framework in many countries of the world. Spatial data are absolutely necessary for studies and scientific research in universities, institutes and private institutions. Geographic Information Systems, which have a very common usage area in the world, are also used in our country, especially by the private sector, universities and public institutions. Although it is extremely important to use GIS technologies in order to reach healthy results and evaluations in scientific studies, especially in public institutions and universities, GIS cannot be used effectively enough due to the inadequacy of trained personnel who can work in this field. In this respect, although the orientation and interest in Geographic Information Systems has increased in our country in recent years, this technology cannot be utilized at the level it deserves due to the lack of sufficient and qualified human resources. In addition, although managers in some institutions and organizations are conscious of the necessity of Geographic Information Systems technology, they are undecided about whether to invest or not due to the lack of trained personnel in this regard. For all these reasons, it is clear that it is necessary to eliminate the lack of human resources in GIS. Our university’s GIS Program has been designed with the potential to attract attention in creating a trained workforce by putting spatial technologies on top of its advantage in spatial problem solving, since it teaches and covers spatial thinking on the one hand. Again, the curriculum of the Geographic Information Systems Program was evaluated in this context and it was created in order to provide a solution to the need for the use of spatial information technologies in the country and to contribute to the elimination of the lack of qualified personnel in public institutions, and it was aimed to create the professional experience of the students who graduated from the program seriously during the course period. Thus, graduates of the program will have received their education in public institutions and organizations to meet their needs on their own, and they will have the skills to solve spatial data and analysis problems faster in public institutions and organizations. It is also among the priorities of the program to carry out academic studies for the development of geography and geographical knowledge in Turkey and the world, and to contribute the results obtained from these studies to both the country and the world.

Goals and Purposes

It is one of the leading companies in Turkey, which trains students who can think analytically and prepares themselves for business life, produces projects with the private sector and offers part-time employment opportunities to its students in these projects, implements a program where the private sector offers job offers to its students through our university, and ensures that it is sustainable. to be the best GIS Programme.

In summary, the aim of the program is to train staff who know the basic principles, strategies and techniques of geographic information technologies and spatial data management, which are effective in the decision-making process of public institutions and private institutions, and are equipped with analytical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making abilities. This program aims to cover all the theoretical and applied knowledge of the field of study and to give its students the chance to specialize in one of the fields of Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing, to equip them with the ability to conduct research in that field.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates of this program may have the opportunity to work in the institutions and organizations in the public and private sector, and especially in the units of local governments that primarily produce and process spatial data, in Geographic Information Systems units and information processing units, which have started to be established in many public institutions and organizations in our country. Graduates can be employed in all information service points, especially database management and spatial database applications, which is a rapidly developing sector in our country.
